Scotland hits century in Junior Eastern Counties
Marcus Scotland hammered an unbeaten century and Isiah O’Brien claimed four wickets to guide leaders St David’s to an emphatic 214-run triumph over bottom team Flatts in the second round of the Junior Eastern Counties at Lord’s last weekend.
Scotland, who represented Bermuda at the ICC Under-19 World Cup qualifier in Toronto last month, struck 112 before retiring.
Oni Smith added 61 and Dalin Richardson 60 as St David’s piled up 282 for seven.
Shane Robinson, Logan Jones and Keegan Jones took two wickets each for Flatts.
In reply, Flatts were bowled out for 68 with Jamel Proctor and Jamar Stovell scoring 12 runs apiece as O’Brien tore through the batting order on the way to remarkable figures of four for three. Kirk Stephens and Richardson held their end of the bargain by taking two wickets each.
In a closer contest, Cleveland edged Bay by 14 runs at Sea Breeze Oval to boost their hopes of reaching the final.
Kaijun Simons scored 30 runs, Doman Rabain 17 and Coolridge Fubler 14 as Cleveland posted 132 runs.
Jordan Burgess led the Bay attack superbly with figures of four for 21 while Nirobi Mills and De’Nyi Thomas claimed two wickets each.
The visiting side then restricted Bay to 118 with Jaiden Manders topping the home side’s batting with 37 runs and Tai Cariah adding 19. Keith Whorms and Tibrae Johnson led the Cleveland attack with figures of four for 12 and four for 15.
The third and final stage of the round-robin phase will be held on Saturday with leaders St David’s travelling to Sea Breeze Oval to face second-placed Bay while Cleveland County and Flatts meet at Lord’s. The top two teams will meet in the final on August 26 at Sea Breeze Oval.
St David’s have already qualified for the final. Bay are tied with third-placed Cleveland on points but are ahead on net run rate.
