Prospect seize dramatic victory
Prospect Primary scored with the last ball of the match to win a dramatic final against Harrington Sound Primary School in the Bermuda School Sports Federation Super 8 cricket tournament.
Prospect held their nerve to score the nine runs needed to surpass Harrington Sound’s score of 46 at the National Sports Centre on Wednesday. Tajahri Rogers led the charge with ten runs.
Harrington Sound posted their lowest score of the day when they were sent in to bat. Isaiah O’Brien led the way with 20 not out, while Skylar Young added 12. Prospect needed 46 to defeat Elliot Primary in the semi-final. Gian Christopher top-scored for Elliot with 14. Saqui Robinson and Jai Simmons both scored ten for Prospect.
Harrington Sound beat West Pembroke Primary to win the other semi-final.
O’Brien hit 22 as his team scored 54 runs. West Pembroke had difficultly in dealing with the Harrington Sound bowling and managed only 34 in reply. Jahni Douglas scored 14 for West Pembroke.
The same schools faced each other in the girls’ final but this time Harrington Sound came out on top. Prospect scored 54, with Malaya Whitter and Sydney Santos both making 11.
Harrington Sound responded convincingly and reached their target with ease. Jashay Trott scored 17 while Aniyah Minors added 15.
Prospect defeated St David’s Primary in the semi-final, with Raven Peterson Clark taking three wickets in the final over to secure the win.
Harrington Sound again defeated West Pembroke in their semi-final. West Pembroke batted first and scored 50 with Saonay Trott makings seven. Trott scored 25 in reply and Harrington Sound crossed the target with three overs remaining.
