Eight-man Stars go down fighting

Terryn Fray top scored for Bay with 65 not out

Bailey’s Bay defeated eight-man Western Stars by 25 runs to earn their first in the Premier Division Twenty20 competition thsi season at Sea Breeze Oval on Sunday.

Bay posted 161 for five in their 20 overs after winning the toss, with the main contributions coming from the top-three batsmen.

Rodney Trott, the Bay captain, and Coolie Durham put on 68 for the first wicket from 9.2 overs, when Durham departed for 26 after hitting two fours and two sixes.

Trott and Terryn Fray then added 51 for the second wicket, with Fray finishing as top scorer with 65 not out from only 39 balls. He hit seven fours and two sixes. Trott supported with 46 off 43 balls, with four fours and two sixes.

Nyon Steede led Stars’ bowling with four for 25 from three overs.

Despite being three players short, Stars put up a gallant fight. Opener Rohan Davis led the run chase with 31 from 32 balls. He and Swayne Campbell (12) put on 31 for the first wicket, before a second wicket stand of 46 between Davis and Donte Wellman kept it interesting.

Wellman scored 23 from 29 balls before Kyrie Furbert, batting at No 4, chipped in with 26 from 17 balls. Seth Campbell was last man out on the final ball for 18 as Coolie Durham claimed two for 18 from four overs.
