St George’s spoil De Wicketest’s party
St George’s dashed De Wicketest’s hopes of completing the coveted league and cup double by edging them by 14 runs in their Evening Cricket League First Division knockout semi-final at Shelly Bay.
The East Enders will now face league runners-up North Village, who cruised into next month’s final after crushing Deloitte by 63 runs in Saturday’s first match. Neil Paynter, with 38, and Troy Hall’s 27 helped St George’s, who finished fourth in the league, to post 147 for eight from their 20 overs. Paul Fox made 64 and Terry Sousa chipped in with 31 but league champions De Wicketest could muster only 133 for seven in reply.
Village, led by Derwin Adams’s 63 and 28 from Shervin Jennings, piled up 171 for six and then restricted Deloitte to 108 for eight, with Keith Jennings and Nia Rawlins picking up two wickets apiece.
Janak Privath was Deloitte’s best bowler with two for 34.
The league’s Premier Division semi-finals will be held on September 8 with both finals set for the following Saturday.
