Siblings Derrick and Ricardo Brangman are among a foursome of players battling to regain their place in champions Somerset’s Cup Match team this year.

Bailey’s Bay all-rounder Derrick, who missed last year’s Cup Match through a one-year Bermuda Cricket Board ban for breaching its Code of Conduct, has been named in the President’s XI for tomorrow’s final trial match and his sibling in the Vice-President’s XI.

Southampton Rangers wicketkeeper-batsman Ricardo made his debut in 2008, but was dropped the following year and has been out of the west ender’s team ever since.

All-rounders Kamau Leverock and Deunte Darrell are the others seeking recalls this year.

Leverock relinquished his spot last year because of commitments with English county side Nottinghamshire in the Second XI Championship, while Darrell’s hopes of being recalled were dashed after he suffered road rash in a bike accident just before Somerset’s final trial.

Leverock has been named in the President’s XI and Darrell, the 2010 Cup Match MVP, in the Vice -President’s XI.

Michael Corday, the chairman of Somerset’s selectors, is encouraged by the calibre of the players the champions have at their disposal to choose from this year.

“We have good options with the guys that are training now and even the younger guys,” he said. “Based on what we see from our youngsters and players that are little older, the guys that are coming around now and showing an interest in training sessions, I think we are going to have some good headaches for the next few years.”

Somerset have been forced to make at least two changes this year. Jekon Edness, the former captain and wicketkeeper, has retired while his cousin, Tre Manders, has been ruled out after suffering a broken ankle in a road accident last week.

“I think the changes that we are forced to make are going to take some thought because we do have options,” Corday added. “It’s not like this is a solid swap for Jekon or a solid swap for Tre.

“We have options, so we are going to have to debate those options and, like I said we have some good options.

“You have an idea in your head and you have to think twice about it and that’s a good headache because it means that guys are pushing for positions.”

The President’s XI will be led by Jordan DeSilva, the Somerset captain, and the Vice-President’s XI by Terryn Fray in tomorrow’s final Cup Match trial match at Somerset Cricket Club, starting from 10am.

“I think it should be an exciting trial with the way the coach [Jeff Richardson] and skipper [DeSilva] have set the teams up,” Corday said.

“We try to get the guys we are really looking at to bat or bowl against our best bowlers or best batsmen, in terms of what position we’re looking to fill.

“We just don’t pick the teams. It’s well thought out so it should be a good trial.”

Somerset have made one change to their selection committee this year as Edness has replaced Jermaine Warner who declared himself unavailable.

Coach Richardson, captain DeSilva and former captain Jacobi Robinson are the remaining members on Somerset’s selection committee.
