Delray Rawlins is convinced that Bermuda have “all the tools” required to achieve their primary objective in the ICC Americas T20 World Cup Qualifier, which the island will host starting this weekend.

Bermuda’s 16-man squad, which will be captained by Southampton Rangers and Somerset Cup Match all-rounder Dion Stovell, is set to square off against regional rivals the United States, Canada and Cayman Islands during the weeklong double round-robin tournament.

Double-headers will take place at White Hill Field and the National Sports Centre with the top two countries advancing to the final qualifier in Dubai in October and November.

“I believe we have all the tools to qualify and do big things in the coming months,” said the Sussex all-rounder.

Bermuda will begin their campaign against the United States at White Hill Field on Sunday, beginning at 11am.

Rawlins has been made available for Bermuda after several weeks of negotiation between the Bermuda Cricket Board and his English county club and is looking forward to representing his country of birth.

“It’s always nice to play for your country,” he added. “But to do it in your own country is even better, so hopefully the lads can put on a show and entertain the public.”

Rawlins is among several players that have returned to the national set-up in time for the crucial upcoming matches which includes Rodney Trott, Sinclair Smith, Derrick Brangman, Justin Pitcher and George O’Brien Jr.

“The team looks strong and some of the work the boys have put in has been second to none,” said Rawlins, who has been involved in Vitality Blast T20 matches with Sussex Sharks lately. “I know the boys will give it their all and I would just say expect some special things in this tournament from some seriously talented and skilful players.”

Bermuda’s preparations have not gone without setback as Malachi Jones, who represented Bermuda at the 2007 ICC World Cup in the West Indies, has been ruled out because of a shoulder injury.
