Trott named vice-captain for Oman

Terryn Fray will captain Bermuda

Terryn Fray has been named as captain and Rodney Trott as vice-captain of Bermuda in the Cricket World Cup Challenge League B in Oman from December 2 to 12.

The 15-man squad includes five changes to the squad that competed in the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, last month, with Tre Manders, Justin Pitcher and Bailey’s Bay trio Kyle Hodsoll, Zeko Burgess and Pierre Smith being called up.

It will be Manders’s first action since breaking his ankle in a motorcycle accident in July.

Left out of the squad are Allan Douglas Jr, George O’Brien, Oronde Bascome, Charles Trott, Malachi Jones and Macai Simmons.

Also missing is Janeiro Tucker, although he will continue to serve as assistant coach under head coach Herbie Bascome.

Dion Stovell, who stood down as the T20 captain in Dubai, has been included for the 50-overs tournament, as has Deunte Darrell, who does not appear to have been disciplined after being charged by ICC and suspended for one game for “conduct that brings the game into disrepute” after questioning his dismissal against Namibia.

Bermuda play against Hong Kong, Italy, Jersey, Kenya and Uganda in the tournament, which is the start of qualification to the World Cup 2023.

Between now and 2021 there will be 90 matches played in League A and League B for qualification to the World Cup Qualifier 2022, with each team playing 15 matches as they battle for points to move on to the Qualifier Play-off, the ICC World Cup League 2 in 2022.

“The Executive of the Bermuda Cricket Board and member clubs wish the men’s national cricket team much success as they head off to compete this Sunday in the ICC Men’s World Cup Challenge League,” Calvin Blankendal, the BCB executive director, said.

“This is the beginning of our three-year qualification campaign and will also aid in increasing our international ICC rankings.”
