Jackson off the mark as Stars coach

Rohan Davis claimed three wickets

Lord’s (Devonshire Rec. won toss): Western Stars (10pts) beat Devonshire Rec. by ten wickets

Western Stars thrashed Devonshire by ten wickets in a lopsided First Division Twenty20 affair at Lord’s today to give new coach Curtis Jackson his first win at the helm.

Rohan Davis claimed three wickets and Phillip Thomas and Khiry Furbert two apiece to restrict winless Devonshire to 95 for nine.

Jaiden Manders and Ryan Tyrell then produced an unbroken 99-run opening partnership to finish the job off with 49 balls to spare.

“It feels good to get my first win as coach,” Jackson said. “We should have won last week but we dropped too many catches but this week was a complete difference.”

Jackson was particularly pleased with his team’s flawless and disciplined run chase.

“I’ve been telling the players in training that Twenty20 is not all about hitting balls to the boundary, it’s picking up the singles,” he added.

“I’ve been telling them that the first ten overs I want at least 80 runs and today we had 90 runs on the board.

“I was pleased with that. We ran a lot more singles than we did last weekend and that’s what helped a lot and changed the game for us.”

Devonshire elected to bat after winning the toss and quickly slumped to 13 for four after four overs as Davis and Seth Campbell made early inroads with the new ball.

Devonshire’s batsmen continued to find runs hard to come by and at the end of the power play they had only 18 runs on the board.

Chris Dailey and Koshun Lightbourne-Simmons eventually provided the innings with impetus as they led a middle and lower-order fightback to carry Devonshire to a more respectable total.

Dailey stroked a team high 33 from 30 balls and dominated a 36-run fifth wicket stand with Denar Johnson to spark the revival.

Lightbourne-Simmons scored 27 from 30 balls and added 15 runs for the eighth wicket with wicketkeeper Sanjay Sinanon and a further 20 for the ninth wicket with Sherwin Jones before he was the last wicket to fall in the final over of the innings.

Davis was the pick of the Stars bowlers with three for 15 while Furbert took two for 18 and Thomas two for 22 respectively.

Stars were in full control in reply with Manders and Tyrell capitalising on a wayward Devonshire bowling attack that sent down 15 wides.

Stars plundered 58 runs with the fielding restrictions in place and kept their foot on the gas the rest of the way.

Manders, who ended the game in style with a boundary down the ground off Jones, led the run chase with 45 from 40 deliveries while Tyrell scored 37 from 30.

Flatts Victoria continued their perfect start to the season with a seven-wicket victory over Somerset Bridge at White Hill Field today.

Having elected to bat, Somerset Bridge set a target of 152 for 6 from their 20 overs with captain Joshua Gilbert (51) impressing.

However, Flatts made short work of the target, raching 153 for 3 with two overs remaining. Regino Smith (58) and Reggie Baker (32) led the charge.
