All-Star game to showcase top talents

Terryn Fray, the Bailey’s Bay captain, will be involved in the All-Star match

The Bermuda Cricket Board and the Cricket Committee have confirmed the players and coaches selection for the first Twenty20 All-Star Classic at Somerset Bridge Recreation Club on September 12.

The All-Star Classic will see the First and Premier Divisions, compete as a BCB President’s and Vice-President’s XI in their respective divisions.

The players and coaching staff have been selected by the BCB National Team Selection Committee, led by Dwayne Leverock, with the only stipulation being that Premier Division players had to have played in six games this season while those eligible in the First Division had to have featured in four matches.

In the Premier Division encounter, the President’s XI, coached by Jeff Richardson and Dexter Basden includes the likes of Terryn Fray, Macai Simmons, Treadwell Gibbons and will be captained by Jordan DeSilva.

Meanwhile, the Vice-President’s XI, coached by Ricky Brangman and Irving Romaine, includes Chris Douglas and brothers Onias and Oronde Bascome among their ranks with the former of the siblings also captaining the side.

In the First Division All-Star Classic encounter, Lorenzo Tucker and Shane Hollis have been selected to coach the President’s XI which includes Flatt’s Victoria pair Regino Smith and Cofield Robinson who will captain the side.

The opposition coached by Del Hollis and Curtis Jackson will be captained Joshua Gilbert and also includes Kristian Singh and his Cleveland County team-mate Tybrae Robinson.

Steven Douglas, Bermuda Cricket Board Committee chairman spoke of the intention of the concept of the competition.

“We have spoken about the possibility of this for some time but in the last couple of weeks we really pushed to get this opportunity through,” said Douglas, speaking at the selection press conference at the BCB offices today.

“We put a package together and what we want to achieve together is allowing players the chance to showcase their talent.”
