Rawlins in Sussex squad for key showdown
Bermuda’s Delray Rawlins is part of an unchanged Sussex Sharks team that will travel to Canterbury today to meet Kent Spitfires in a top-of-the-table Vitality Blast match this afternoon.
Sussex are now second in the South Group, just a point behind the Spitfires, following their exciting 13-run win over Hampshire on Thursday night. Captain Luke Wright led from the front with his knock of 83 at the top of the innings and now leads the Vitality Blast run-scoring charts.
Rawlins, batting at No 3, was out for ten as Sussex scored 159 for five from their 20 overs and then restricted Hampshire to 146 for six.
“It was an important win after the break to win here, especially as the conditions were very much against us,” Wright said afterwards. “My last game before this season was in November but I am lucky I’m not a person who hits lots of balls, I’m more feely with my batting.
“It is nice to come in and contribute, that is what I need to do as captain.”
Kent are the only side to beat Sussex in this year’s competition, with that thrilling one-run victory coming at The 1st Central County Ground nine days ago.
Like all matches in this year’s Vitality Blast, today’s match against Kent Spitfires will be played behind closed doors because of the Covid-19 pandemic which is still hampering sporting events.
Fans will however be able to enjoy all the action from the comfort of their homes as there will be live television coverage. The match gets under way at 10am Bermuda time.
