Sussex move into strong position against Durham

Sussex lead Durham by 139 runs with five wickets in hand at the close of day two of their four-day LV=County Championship match at Hove today.

Sussex, who dismissed Durham for 223, are 362 for five with Cheteshwar Pujara scoring his third straight century, 128 not out in 266 minutes with 16 boundaries.

Pujara, in his home debut, is at the crease with wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan, who has five not out, while Bermudian Delray Rawlins is waiting to come in next. Bad light ended play 13 overs early as Sussex, seeking their first win of the season, were looking to extend their lead in the final hour of play. They started the day 82 for one, still 141 runs behind.

Earlier in the innings, Sussex got half centuries from opener Tom Haines (54), Tom Alsop (66) and Tom Clark (50) as Durham struggled to contain the run flow. Alsop hit ten fours in 150 minutes at the crease while Clark scored his 50 off 99 balls with five fours and a six as he and Pujara shared in a stand of 143 for the fifth wicket in taking the score from 204 to 350.

Opener Matthew Potts was the only Durham bowler to take more than one wicket, with his two for 70 off 27 overs.
