Kamau Leverock joins Florida Scorpions for Champions Cricket Open

Bermuda's Kamau Leverock

Kamau Leverock will have the opportunity to showcase his talent in the Alberta Cricket Association’s Champions Cricket Open after being signed as part of the Florida Scorpions squad.

The $100,000 event, which begins today and runs until Monday, will see 20 clubs from across Canada and overseas compete over four groups of five teams each in a single round-robin group-stage format.

The top two teams from each of the groups will advance to the quarter-final stage after the conclusion of the group stages.

The Bermuda captain will be joined in the Florida Scorpions squad by a large contingent of Scotland squad members, including Kyle Coetzer, Richie Berrington, Calum MacLeod, Michael Leask, Ollie Hairs, Matthew Cross, Chris Greaves, Safyaan Sharif and Adrian Neill.

Scorpions have been placed in group C alongside Newton Surrey Lions, Vancouver Heights, Royal Punjab and World XI. They are scheduled to start the tournament against Royal Punjab today.

Edmonton Royals, Brampton Pacers, Langley Titans, 76ers and The Avengers will contest group A, with Hawks XI, Greenfield, Maple CC, Majha XI and Surrey Hawks placed in group B.

Meanwhile, Patiala Shahi Panthers, Edmonton Challengers, Edmonton United, Shakti CC and Saskatchewan Strykers make up group D.

This will be Leverock’s second stint with Florida Scorpions, having previously played for the club alongside compatriot Delray Rawlins in the US Open Cricket T20 tournament last year, in which they helped the team reach the semi-finals.
