Western Stars made to sweat in victory over Warwick
White Hill Field (Western Stars won toss): Western Stars beat Warwick by three wickets.
Western Stars advanced into the next round of the Bermuda Cricket Board Knockout Cup but not without a scare from a stubborn Warwick side in defence of a mediocre total at White Hill Field on Sunday.
Stars won the toss and sent Warwick into bat. Seth Campbell gave them a dream start when he captured two wickets of the first two balls and a third on his fifth to finish the over with a triple-wicket maiden.
Malachi Jones and Cory Burgess started a recovery with a fourth-wicket partnership of 21 runs before Jones was caught in slips by Macai Young for 12. Burgess joined Jones in the pavilion the next over when he was run out from a direct throw by Rohan Davis from the long off boundary for 11.
Robert Richardson and Omari DeShields helped to add some respectability to the score with a team high, sixth-wicket partnership worth 42 runs.
Both batters would be separated one over apart as DeShields went for 15 before Richardson was bowled by Young for a team high 30 runs from 69 balls after surviving four dropped catches to lead Warwick to an under par total of 91 runs from 28.5 overs.
Campbell claimed three wickets for 25 runs ably assisted by Young with two wickets for 16 runs and Hall with two wickets for 19 runs.
Needing 92 runs to win at a required rate of 1.87 runs per over, Khiry Furbert and Jaiden Manders batted cautiously to put on an opening partnership of 15 runs before the latter was run out from a direct hit by Luke Horan attempting to take a risky single.
Dointe Dowling went without scoring to bring in Jeff Sinah to join Furbert. The two batted aggressively to carry the score to 70 but the former responded late to a call for a single and was run out for 12.
Furbert was caught in the very next over for a team high 32 runs with the score on 78. Stars then lost three wickets in quick session as Warwick failed to concede defeat until Brain Hall stabilised the innings and scored the winning runs with a six over long on to finish 12 not out.
