Growing support for Women’s T20 league excites Kellie Smith
Kellie Smith, the Bermuda Cricket Board chair of the development programme for youth, women and girls, is excited by the support received by the new Women’s T20 league.
The first ever structured women’s cricket competition started at the beginning of the month with two matches played. Five teams, Cleveland, Warwick Workmen’s, St George’s, St David’s and Western Stars make up the league.
Cleveland, Warwick, St David’s and Western Stars have already played one game, with St George’s to fulfil their first fixture today.
“The last two games that we played, we had people that came out in support, which was amazing,’’ said Smith. “It was a great atmosphere.
“We are hoping each week that more spectators will come out to support these ladies now that the programme has taken off.”
St George’s get their first piece of action when they clash with St David’s on North Field in a fixture scheduled for today at 4pm.
Both teams are hunting for their first wins after St David’s got a 111-run thumping at the hands of Warwick, who go up against Western Stars at Police Recreation Club at 10am tomorrow.
