Flatts, Cleveland and Warwick win on opening day of T20 First division
Southampton Oval (Southampton Rangers won toss): Flatts beat Southampton Rangers by 51 runs
JJ Nel scored a fantastic century as Flatts opened their Athene T20 First Division campaign in style.
Nel scored 104, including eight fours and eight sixes, off just 60 deliveries before losing his wicket when being caught by Keishon Wilson off the bowling of Curtis Jackson just three balls from the end of the innings.
Kevin Hurdle, 28 from 31 deliveries, and Keegan Jones, 23 from 26 deliveries, also contributed as Flatts posted 191 from three in their 20 overs.
After being relegated from the Premier Division in the 50 Overs league and suffering heavy defeats in the process, Rangers would have been heartened by some better batting performances here.
Akale Bean caught the eye before he was run out for 55, with Jackson scoring 34 not out but Rangers never came close to pulling off a win, finishing on 140 for five.
Devonshire Rec (Devonshire Rec won toss): Warwick Workmen’s beat Devonshire Rec by seven wickets
Warwick Workmen’s T20 captain Staphen Dill led by example to lead his to an easy win in their opening league match.
Dill scored 68, including seven sixes, with some ferocious leg-side hitting as the umpires were forced to call for replacement balls on a regular basis as Warwick chased down Rec’s total of 97 for seven in just 12.5 overs.
Rec could never really get a partnership established until No.6 Rudell Pitcher and No. 7 Aaron Holdipp came to the crease with the score at 68 for 5, with both batsman hitting sixes to take the score to 96 before they were both out inside the final over.
For good measure, Dill was Warwick’s best bowler with two wickets for 14 runs from his four overs before going on to star with the bat.
White Hill Field (Cleveland County won toss): Cleveland County beat Somerset Bridge by 27 runs
Shawn Riley’s five wickets for Somerset Bridge were in vain as his side failed to chase down Cleveland’s total of 127 for eight.
Riley took the key wickets of opener Treadwell Gibbons Jr, No. 3 Steven Bremar Jr, Jahcobi Butterfield, Dion Stovell and Isaiah Greaves to give his side a fighting chance beating a side that performed with credit during the 50 Overs season.
Bridge looked to make a fine start with the bat as allrounder Riley opened the batting alongside Kieran Richardson, with the pair putting on 31 runs for the first wicket.
However, after Riley was caught by Greaves off the bowling of Stovell, Bridge failed to put on a significant partnership with wickets falling at regular intervals.
Adrian Burrows provided some resistance with a score of 26 not out but his side could reach only 102 for seven at the end of their 20 overs
