St David’s skittled out for 39 as Stars lay down marker
Devonshire Rec (St David’s won toss): Western Stars beat St David’s by 81 runs
Western Stars laid down an early marker in the Athene T20 Premier Division by bowling out St David’s for just 39 runs.
St David’s had won the toss and chosen to field first and may have thought they had a foothold in the game after restricting Stars to 120 in their 20 overs.
Stars struggled early with openers Tre and Jaiden Manders out for just four and two respectively, but a stabilising knock from No. 3 Khiry Furbert, who hit 34 from 30 deliveries, steadied the Stars ship.
Makai Young, with 22 not out, and Brian Hall with 19 also chipped in as Stars set St David’s a target of six runs an over as they went to the crease.
They never came close to making a game of it with only Mikkail Crockwell making it into double figures, scoring ten as his side were skittled out in just 13.3 overs.
Sa-Qui Robinson, captain Justin Pitcher, Derrick Brangman and Cejay Outerbridge were all dismissed without troubling the scorer, with nine extras contributing the second-highest amount of runs on the scorecard for St David’s.
Seth Campbell, with three wickets for seven runs, and Makai Young with three for ten were the pick of the Stars bowlers.
Somerset Cricket Club (Somerset won toss): St George’s beat Somerset by five wickets
While most eyes are focused on the big match between Somerset and St George’s at the start of next month, the two teams faced off against each at the start of the Athene T20 Premier Division on Saturday afternoon.
It was the batsmen who stole the show at Somerset Cricket Club with Alje Richardson scoring 78 not out for the home side, who made 156 for four from their 20 overs after winning the toss and choosing to bat first.
After losing a couple of early wickets in response, Charles Trott steered St George’s to victory with 65 from 42 deliveries as his side reached their target with ten balls to spare.
Trott was ably assisted by Zeko Burgess, who hit a quickfire 40, including five sixes, from just 20 deliveries.
Dominic Sabir and JD Albertze had earlier scored 39 and 21 respectively for Somerset.
Southampton Oval (Willow Cuts won toss): Bailey’s Bay beat Willow Cuts by six wickets
In the week in which he was released by Sussex, Delray Rawlins again showed his class by steering 50 Overs champions Bailey’s Bay to a comfortable victory in their opening T20 match of the season.
Rawlins hits 45, from 24 deliveries, as Bay reached their target of 110 in just 14.2 overs.
Willow Cuts, who won the toss and chose to bat, made a bright start to their innings with openers Dwight Basden and captain Herbie Bascome making 17 and 18 respectively as Cuts made it to 51 for 2.
However, that was as good as it got, with only Antonio Darrell and wicketkeeper Shaquille Bean reaching double figures.
Sharye Tavares was Bay’s best bowler with four for 28 in is four overs, with Rodney Trott taking three wickets for just four runs in his four overs.
