St George’s lay down marker with Mini Cup Match win
Despite their poor recent record in Cup Match, St George’s look to have plenty of hope for the future after the east end of the island won Mini Cup Match on Thursday.
Having lost the toss, Somerset were sent into bat with Kamden White and Jacree Francis their highest scorers with 12 runs apiece on their way to a total of 95.
However, that total was not enough to hold off their rivals, who were led by the game’s top scorer Armani Smith.
He hit 26 runs as St George’s passed Somerset’s score with four overs of their 25 left to spark jubilant scenes with supporters screaming and running on to the pitch to congratulate the winning players.
Mini match is contested by students at the government’s Summer Day Camp students and is used to provide an opportunity for our young people to engage in teamwork, sportsmanship and camaraderie.
