Bermuda show signs of improvement in defeat by favourites Canada

Zeri Tomlinson and Isaiah O’Brien stroked aggressive fifties but it was not enough as Bermuda went down to favourites Canada at the ICC Under-19 Men's Cricket World Cup Americas Qualifier.
Arnold Manders’s team posted their highest tournament total of 202 in 49.2 overs after being sent to bat.
However, Canada replied with 203 for five in 36.2 overs to condemn Bermuda to their second defeat having lost by seven wickets against the United States in their tournament opener.
Tomlinson topped Bermuda’s batting with 67 from 78 balls that included six sixes and three fours while O’Brien thumped 64 from 67 balls with five sixes and two fours.
The pair led a fightback after Bermuda slipped to 62 for five in the 26th over as they added 69 for the sixth wicket.
Bermuda suffered another slide after losing three quick wickets with Tomlinson among them before O’Brien and Dionte Dowling added 47 for the ninth wicket.
Dowling chipped in with 20 from 37 balls that contained two fours before becoming the last Bermuda wicket to fall with four balls remaining in the innings.
Amalan Sivakumaran (three for 23) was the pick of the Canadian’s bowling while Rohan Garg (two for 24) and Aadil Dhull (two for 41) claimed two wickets each.
In reply, Canada’s top-order bats all made starts with Dilraj Deol leading the chase with an unbeaten 80 from 95 balls which contained two sixes and six fours.
The No 3 batter featured in two half-century partnerships that kept the hosts firmly on track, adding 51 for the third wicket with Ajayveer Singh and 61 for the fourth with captain Jai Singh.
Canada lost two wickets with no addition to the score in the 35th over before Deol and Yash Mondkar knocked off the remaining 14 runs to power the home side safely across the line with 82 balls to spare.
Wicketkeeper Jordan Mathews (34), Yuvraj Samra (19), Ajayveer Singh (26) and captain Jai Singh (20) were the other Canadian batters in double figures.
Luke Horan (two for 41) and Cadence Douglas (two for 33) were the pick of the bowling attack.
In the other match at Toronto Cricket Club, United States, Bermuda’s opponents today, crushed whipping boys Argentina by 450 runs, after amassing 510 for eight.
