North Field (Grassroots Academy won the toss): No result

Bermuda will face the unbeaten Barbados in the final of the inaugural Bermuda Premier League after their match against the Grassroots Academy from Antigua yielded no result because of rain on Saturday.

The final will start at 10am on Sunday as Barbados are travelling home in the afternoon, with the third-place play-off between Bermuda Select XI and Grassroots shifted to the afternoon.

Grassroots had posted 132 for one in 20 overs after winning the toss and opting to bat first only for rain to prevent Bermuda from chasing, with a point each meaning Bermuda finish second behind Barbados in the group due to a superior net run-rate.

Bermuda captain Delray Rawlins felt his side had done a great job of limiting Grassroots to their total.

“Ideally you want to win the game and we wanted to win it fair and square to be one point ahead,’’ Rawlins said.

“I guess it’s one of those situations where you can’t control the weather. After the way we bowled in the first innings, to restrict a team to 130 in 20 overs when they only lost one wicket is a positive. I don't think the wicket was a bad one and I don't think it was hard to score on.

“I think we bowled extremely well. Our two spinners in the middle, Sabir and Brangman, bowled very well as did our seamers up top and at the end.

Rawlins has yet to bowl in the tournament but he allayed any fears over injury after the match

“Today, those two [Sabir and Brangman] came on first and I was talking to the people around me trying to squeeze myself in, but the way that they bowled and the way the game went, there was no need for me to bowl.

“I think that’s a positive. Zeko Burgess only bowled one over and I didn't bowl any, so to restrict a team to 130 is a massive positive for us.

“Against Barbados, we’re coming with the same attitude and we’re yet to bat first in this tournament.

“That’s what we've wanted to do in most games but that’s how it goes at the toss. Who knows tomorrow is another day and maybe we can get our chance to bat first and put a big total on the board and defend it.

“They beat us in the first game of the tournament, but I feel like we've built some nice rhythm and some nice momentum. I guess playing them has come at the right time.”

Kadeem Henry, the Grassroots skipper was not pleased at missing out on the final after he had scored an unbeaten 63 runs, off 59 balls, and shared an opening stand of 72 with Michael Haynes-Dover, with his displeasure aimed at the groundstaff.

“To be honest we’re all very disappointed,’’ Henry said.

“Not to be on the negative side but the effort from the groundstaff to get the game to be played wasn't proper in my opinion. We all knew the rain was going to come and the effort for the game to be played was very lackadaisical.

“On that wicket, 130 was a good score because it wasn't quick. It was very slow and the ball held a lot. Knowing that we have a spin attack and bowlers who use their variations very well to utilise the slow bounce, 130 would have been a challenging score.

“It was good to be here and to be a part of the tournament but unfortunately it ended in a way we didn't want it to. At the end of the day, what is done is done and it’s time to move on. We will come back next year and see how things go.”

In the morning match on Saturday, Barbados hammered the Bermuda Select XI by nine wickets to pick up their third win of the tournament. Asked to bat first, the select side could manage only 82 for seven in 20 overs and Barbados chased down the target in just 8.1 overs.

The result left the Select XI bottom of the group after three heavy defeats.
