Chris Douglas thumped the season’s first century as PHC came away with an emphatic 216-run victory over the Bermuda under-19 team in a lopsided First Division 50 overs contest at PHC Field on Saturday.

Facing the new ball, the swashbuckling left-handed batsman was at the crease for more than three hours and plundered ten fours and four sixes during his knock of 119 as PHC amassed 255 all out in 46.3 overs after winning the toss and choosing to bat.

Douglas, who was dropped on 92 and again on 112, featured in two half-century partnerships on the way to his hundred, adding 75 with Kevin Lambe for the second wicket and 74 with Dionte Dowling for the fourth wicket.

“Chris batted well and carried himself to a three-mark figure,” PHC coach Cal Waldron told The Royal Gazette.

“To the detriment of the under-19’s missed opportunities, he was able to reach the milestone. He was a contributor in our two big partnerships that laid the foundation for us to reach the total we did.”

The experienced all-rounder, who joined PHC from Somerset, is off to a flying start with the bat this season after hitting a team-high 81 in PHC’s opening win against Somerset Bridge at PHC Field last week.

Lambe scored 39 from 35 balls, which included six boundaries, while cousins Taurean Manders (14) and Gavin Manders (11) were also in double figures for the home side.

The Bermuda under-19s came up well short in their reply as they were dismissed for a paltry 39 in 15.4 overs, with opener and all-rounder Jermal Proctor (14) the only batsman offering any real resistance to the onslaught of a rampant PHC bowling attack.

First-change Lambe was the pick of the PHC bowling, claiming four wickets for just five runs off three overs, while Dowling (two for 21), Darrien Gibbons (two for 10) and Douglas (two for 2) took two apiece.

“Kudos to Lambe for his wicket haul, may they continue for him,” Waldron added.

“Overall we are moving forward in the path we want to be heading. However we still have some areas to get better at and some players haven’t scratched the surface of their potential yet.”

PHC’s convincing victory overshadowed a superb bowling display by Bermuda under-19 first change Shaquille Pitcher, who claimed five for 50 off his full quota of overs.

Also chalking up a second win in as many matches was Warwick who handed Somerset Bridge a five-wicket defeat at White Hill Field on Sunday.

Kwasi James bagged three wickets for 12 runs and Malachi Jones (two for 41) and Marcus Johnson (two for 20) picked up a brace each as Warwick dismissed Bridge for 127 in 41.5 overs after sending the home team to bat.

Donnie Charles was Bridge’s top scorer with 27, while wicketkeeper Adrian Burrows added 20 and Shane Hollis 22 not out.

Warwick then replied with 128 for five in 29.1 overs, with Shonari Boyles-Simons leading the chase with 37. James chipped in with 32, Corey Burgess an unbeaten 24 and captain Stefan Dill 22.

Shawn Riley was the pick of the Bridge bowling with three for 29, while Hollis took two for 37.

“It was a good win for us and we came up here with a very professional performance,” Warwick coach Lorenzo Tucker said.

“We are bowling very well as of late, bowling Southampton Rangers for 111 last week and now bowling out Bridge for 127. After ten overs they had only ten runs, so I was very proud of the guys in the field.

“Our batting still needs a little more work, but we did come across the line with five out as opposed to eight last time, so I’m very pleased with the performance. It was professional from A to Z and we got the result we deserved.”

Flatts, who received a bye in the previous round, got their season off to a great start with a six-wicket win over Devonshire Rec at Wellington Oval on Sunday.

Sai Kumar (three for 25) and Nekoda Bascome (three for 47) claimed six wickets between them while Shane Robinson took two for 23 as Devonshire were dismissed for 165 in 32.2 overs after being sent to bat.

Captain, and wicketkeeper, Kijaun Franks led Flatts’s chase, lashing 13 fours and a six in a top knock of 65 from 56 balls. Reggie Baker chipped in with a useful 42 from 58 balls, which included six boundaries, while opening batsman Jermaine Clarke stroked 23 from 20 balls that contained five fours as the designated home side replied with 166 for four in 24.2 overs.

“It was a good performance for the first game,” Franks said.

“We have areas where we need to improve, but other than that it was a good performance by the team.”

Flatts were 34 for two after five overs before Franks and Baker added 111 for the third wicket to carry them to within 21 runs of their target with plenty of wickets and overs to spare.

“Reggie and I knew our instructions going out there, and just done what we done,” Franks added. “We have a good understanding when it comes to batting together.”

Shaquille Pitcher led the Devonshire bowling with two for 61.
