Sea Breeze Oval: (St David’s won toss): St. David’s beat Western Stars by nine wickets

St. David’s made light work of Western Stars as they cruised to victory on Sunday.

Captain Derrick Brangman did the damage with the ball, bowling straight through his ten overs and finishing with four wickets for only 23 runs. He also took two catches, one off his own bowling.

Restricting Western Stars, who were without Kamau Leverock, to just 71 after some fine bowling from Cejay Outerbridge, St David’s had little trouble chasing down the total and Brangman was delighted with the performance.

“It was a total team effort today,” he said.

“We are looking to finish the first round unbeaten and then we will take it from there

“Cejay gave us a good start taking the two openers in the first over. The wicket was supporting me a lot so I just kept myself on and picked up from him.”

Outerbridge removed Khiry Furbert abd Jaiden Manders in the first over of the game with only four runs on the board to start the avalanche and Tre Manders was run out shortly after leave Stars seven for three.

Veteran Jekon Edness and Tamiko Wilson tried to stabilise the innings with a team-high, 21-run fourth-wicket partnership before the latter fell lbw to Brangman for eight with the score on 28.

As St David’s continued to dominate, Edness watched partners come and go as the only Stars batsman to offer any resistance. He hit a patient 22, off 55 balls, before he became the last of three run outs to close out the Stars innings.

In defence of their small total, Stars did not do themselves any justice in the field as Okera Bascome was dropped by Naquan Smith at square leg off the very first ball.

Bascome was grateful for the life as he and opening partner Dean Simons put on a first- wicket stand worth 50 runs in just five overs before Simons was caught behind for 23.

OJ Pitcher joined Bascome and was dropped on four, also off the bowling off Seth Campbell as the pair chased down the remainder of the runs in only eight overs with some timely strokes.

Bascome finished with a game high 38 not out. Campbell claimed the only St. David’s wicket finishing with one for 26 from his four overs.
