Chris Douglas given four-match ban for ‘showing serious dissent’ to umpire

PHC coach Cal Waldron has expressed his disappointment that his star player Chris Douglas has been handed a four-match suspension.

Douglas will miss four 50-over matches after showing serious dissent at an umpire’s decision during PHC’s 133-run defeat to Devonshire Rec on June 2.

While the Bermuda Cricket Board made the ruling public on Tuesday, Douglas has already served one match of his ban, missing the game against Warwick Workmen's Club on Sunday.

“It’s unfortunate Chris got suspended because he brought leadership skills on the field,’’ Waldron told The Royal Gazette.

“We've got other people coming into the team. They have to step up and stake their claim to be leaders in the team.

“Chris captained the team a couple of times just to show them something on the field. Davin Dill and Chris have been our captains this season.”

Douglas almost missed out on representing Somerset in Cup Match last season after being banned for two 50-overs or four T20 matches for a similar offence, with the suspension originally scheduled to have come to an end after the Annual Classic.

However, the BCB ruled that Douglas had served his time on the sidelines after ruling that the Eastern Counties Cup should count as one of his matches, even though he was a registered player for Somerset and not St David’s.

Douglas was not the only player to fall foul of the BCB’s disciplinary committee, with Devonshire Rec’s Alafia Henry given an official reprimand for showing dissent at an umpire’s decision on June 9.
