Lord’s (St David's won toss): Somerset beat St David's by 94 runs

St David’s have lost their first game in the Premier Division 50 overs after falling to a heavy defeat at Lord’s on Saturday.

Having won the toss and elected to bowl, St David’s failed to quell a rampant Somerset, with three of the west end side’s opening four batsman all scoring half centuries.

Openers Jermal Proctor and Jade Morrissey both made 52 at vastly different paces before losing their wickets. Teenager Proctor, who is adding to to his reputation every week, made his score off just 56 balls with Morrissey taking 126 balls to reach the same total.

After Proctor fell lbw to St David’s captain Derrick Brangman, incoming Somerset captain Alje Richardson made 32 before being bowled by Cejay Outerbridge. But there was to be no respite for St David’s as No 4 Dominic Sabir hit three fours and three sixes on his way to a quickfire 62 off just 39 balls.

With a liitle help from Isaiah Richardson (17), Janeiro Tucker (4), wicketkeeper Cofield Robinson (4 not out) and Greg Maybury (5 not out), Somerset reached 244 for six in their 50 overs. Outerbridge was the pick of the St David’s bowlers with three for 68 off his ten overs.

St David’s have impressed with their batting this season and made a decent enough start to their reply with opener Okera Bascome making 21 from 22 balls before being caught by Isaiah Richardson off the bowling of Proctor.

While fellow opener Dean Simons batted well before becoming the first of Sabir’s five victims when he was caught by Morrissey for 38, the next four batsman only scored 15 runs between them, with Sa-Qui Robinson (4), Dean Stephens (3), Derrick Brangman (4) and Isaiah O’Brien (4) all falling cheaply.

Ricardo Brangman offered some resistance, scoring 33 not out but the impressive Sabir took the final four wickets of Justin Pitcher, Aaron Paynter, Eugene Ball and Cejay Outerbridge to end with five for 23 from 8.4 overs.

Proctor finished with three for 46 from eight overs with Maybury taking two for 36 from eight overs.

St David’s are back in action on Sunday at home to Willow Cuts
