Flatts ease past PHC to bolster promotion hopes
Flatts recorded their second win in as many days after prevailing by seven wickets over PHC at PHC Field on Sunday .
Jahmain Douglas, Paul Carr Harvey and Shane Robinson bagged seven wickets between them to get Flatts’ promotion bid back on track as they dismissed their struggling First Division 50 overs rivals PHC for 189 in 48.4 overs.
Top-order batters Jermaine Clarke (52) and Keegan Jones (53 not out) then stroked half centuries as Flatts replied with 190 for three in 40.5 overs.
The victory reignited Flatts’ promotion hopes and capped a perfect weekend after they beat fellow promotion contenders Devonshire by eight wickets 24 hours earlier at Devonshire Rec.
“It was a good weekend for we guys,” Flatts captain Kijuan Franks told The Royal Gazette.
“Back-to-back wins so it definitely puts us back in the picture. We still have a lot of work to do when it comes to securing promotion, but this is a step in the right direction and a weekend that we needed.
“Improvements still need to be made in various areas, but I am proud of my team.
“JJ [Jan-Johan Nel] and Keegan batted extremely well on Saturday and today [Sunday] Jermaine and Keegan batted extremely well with two fifties.
“It’s a lot of positives to take from this weekend so we guys just have to build on it and move forward.”
Douglas led Flatts’ attack against PHC with three for 36 while Robinson took two for 19 and Harvey two for 24.
Dionte Dowling was PHC’s top scorer with an unbeaten 51, while Taurean Manders chipped in with 39, captain Davin Dill hit 32 and wicketkeeper Kevin Sunga scored 22.
Also among the runs for Flatts were opening batter Nel (27) and Franks (27), who along with Jones featured in a match-winning partnership of 64 that carried them across the line with 55 balls to spare.
Dowling (one for 41) and Taurean Manders (one for 52) claimed a wicket each while there was one run out.
Southampton Rangers captain Dalin Richardson stroked 129 not out to power his team to a four-wicket win over Western Counties rivals Somerset Bridge at Southampton Oval on Sunday.
Batting at No 3, Richardson hammered 127 from 98 balls, which included five sixes and eleven boundaries as Southampton scored 276 for six in 45 overs in reply to the 275 for seven Bridge posted after electing to bat.
Also making significant contributions in Southampton’s chase were Randy Bean (45), Jahmori Beach (32 not out) and wicketkeeper Nacori Smith (30).
Beach was the pick of the home side bowling with three for 35 and received good support from Makai Jacobs, who took two for 38.
Clarence Trott led the Bridge scoring with 51 ahead of the 48 extras Southampton conceded, which included 32 wides. Neil Thakur (42) and Noel Woods (38) were also among the runs.
Khymai Richards (two for 36) and Shawn Riley (two for 63) were Bridge’s most successful bowlers.
