Sea Breeze Oval (Bailey’s Bay won toss); Bailey’s Bay won by five wickets

Rodney Trott and Jarryd Richardson led a fightback as Bailey’s Bay overcame a top-order collapse to come away victorious over relegation-threatened Willow Cuts on Sunday.

Replying to Cuts’ 220 for eight, Bay slipped from 38 without loss to 46 for four in the space of two overs before Trott and Richardson came to the rescue.

The pair put their heads down and added 164 for the fifth wicket to get Bay’s chase back on track.

Wicketkeeper Richardson was the last Bay wicket to fall with just 11 more runs required, leaving Trott and Sharye Tavares to finish the job without further damage.

“It was a pleasing result which showed character and skill from both Jarryd Richardson and Rodney Trott,” Bay coach and former West Indies player Gus Logie told The Royal Gazette.

“After electing to field and chasing 220 we found ourselves in a pickle, but the composure and confidence combined with a common-sense approach by those two players saw us home. Credit to all on a much needed win.”

Richardson was Bay’s leading runscorer, hitting 88 from 78 balls, including five sixes and seven boundaries.

Trott gathered 55 from 65 balls, hitting a six and five fours, while opening pair Zakao Hart (22) and Coolidge Durham (14) were the others making starts at the crease.

Cuts’ generosity in the field did not aid their cause as they leaked 35 runs in extras, including 25 wides.

Earlier, a 101-run third wicket stand between wicketkeeper/batter Ras Solomon Burrows (72 from 121 balls) and Antonio Darrell (53) put Cuts in a good position after being sent in to bat.

But once Burrows departed in the 38th over the visitors were pegged back after losing five wickets for 42 runs in ten overs.

Shaquille Bean and Sher-Maur Gomes added 20 in an unbroken ninth-wicket partnership to give the Cuts bowlers a few more runs to defend.

Bay were also costly in the field as they conceded 32 extras that included 27 wides.

Second change Kyle Hodsoll was Bay’s chief wicket-taker with three for 46 from eight overs and also sent down a maiden, while Macquille Walker (two for 58) and Tavares (two for 29) took two each.
