Lord’s (St David’s won toss): St David’s beat Western Stars by 107 runs

St David’s captain Derrick Brangman led by example, stroking a half-century and claiming four wickets, as his side beat struggling Premier Division 50 overs rivals Western Stars on Sunday.

The home team posted 301 all out in 45 overs after electing to bat with Brangman leading the way with 65, from 63 balls, which included three boundaries and as many sixes.

The experienced all-rounder was also a thorn in Stars’ side with the ball as he plucked the heart out of their top order on the way to impressive figures of four for 33 as the away side were dismissed for 194 in 46 overs.

“It was a pretty decent day with the bat and ball for everybody,” Brangman told The Royal Gazette.

“Batsmen pulled their weight and bowlers did what they had to do. Isaiah O'Brien got a nice fifty, I got 65 and a couple of guys chipped in with twenties and thirties, so that’s good for the team.

“Bowling-wise, guys did what they had to do. They attacked the stumps and let the batsmen make the mistake, and it went from there.

“The wicket wasn’t doing much so you just had to be patient. It was a little damp first thing in the morning but other than that the wicket was pretty fine.

“It was a good all-round performance and praise to the guys for coming out again and putting their best foot forward.”

St David’s received good contributions throughout their order with O'Brien blazing 62 from just 37 balls with four sixes and two fours, while Dean Stephens (38), Ricardo Brangman (32), OJ Pitcher (28) and Marcus Scotland (24) were the other batters making useful contributions.

Former St David’s captain Justin Pitcher took two for 21 in the second innings to assist Brangman in the bowling attack.

Tre Manders was Stars’ top performer, stroking a team-high 56 and taking three for 69.

Khiry Furbert (52 not out) also stroked a half century for the visitors with Jason Anderson (21), Hurdle (18) and Seth Campbell (12) the only other Stars batters in double figures.

Hurdle was the remaining Stars bowler claiming multiple wickets as he took two for 47, which included the prized wicket of Scotland.

Both teams were generous in the field as Stars conceded 32 extras, including 19 wides, and St David’s 21 with 12 wides.

St David’s remain second behind leaders St George’s while Stars find themselves facing relegation at the opposite end of the standings.
