Warwick thrashed Devonshire Rec by ten wickets at Devonshire Recreation Club on Sunday to clinch the First Division 50 overs title with a game to spare.

Off spinner Shonari Boyles-Simons claimed five for 24 and Luke Horan three for eleven as Devonshire were dismissed for 93 in 25.2 overs after being sent in to bat.

Warwick then knocked off the required runs without loss in 12 overs with Horan (64) and fellow all-rounder Malachi Jones (24) adding 97 in an unbroken opening partnership.

“It feels real good and I am very proud of the guys for reaching our objective,” Warwick coach Lorenzo Tucker told The Royal Gazette.

“Before the season started we wanted to get promoted from the First Division 50 overs to Premier and we have done that in first place.

“Although there is nothing official because of the standings not being out yet and official yet, we know that we have had one loss all year with one game to go and the team in second place (Devonshire) has three losses, so mathematically we believe we have done it but officially that will come from the Board.

“I’m very proud of the guys and the way we’ve done it has been great. The last month we have played some really, really good cricket.

“The Jones and Horan combination at the top has given us a good start and it’s something that helps us out tremendously to put on all those runs without loss. The batsmen coming in are under no real pressure.”

Warwick opted to bowl after dismissing holders Somerset Bridge for 49 the previous day in the second round of the Western Counties at White Hill Field.

“We decided to bowl first because our bowlers bowled great the day before so we wanted to carry that momentum forward and they bowled them out for 93,” Tucker added.

“We then passed that without any loss with Horan and Malachi again putting on a show. The youngster scored 64 and led the way this time with Malachi basically supporting, which is something he’s not used to doing but he did it.

“It was a fantastic achievement for the guys and I’m so very proud of them. They worked hard since we started training in March and the hard work has paid off.

“We will finish the league next week and we have a bye and then we get ready for the T20 season to continue our good form.”

Elsewhere, Flatts capitalised on Devonshire’s slip up to bolster their own chances of securing the remaining promotion spot up for grabs after coming away with a 49-run win over Southampton Rangers at Southampton Oval.

The visitors posted 253 for five after electing to bat with Keegan Jones top scoring with 65, Jan-Johan Nel adding 50, Kijuan Franks 49 and Reggie Baker 43 not out.

Flatts then dismissed their hosts for 204 in 45.3 overs with Shane Robinson (three for 31) and Jones (three for 43) inflicting the heaviest damage with the ball by claiming six wickets between them.

Captain Dalin Richardson was Southampton’s top scorer with 40 followed by Nyasha Mawoyo (35) and wicketkeeper Nacori Smith (32), who made promising starts but were unable to go on.

Richardson (two for 52) and Makai Jacobs (two for 58) were the home team’s most successful bowlers.

The remaining match saw PHC beat Somerset Bridge by 71 runs at White Hill Field.

PHC posted 207 all out in 40 overs after electing to take first strike at the crease with Gavin Manders leading the charge with 79, wicketkeeper Jaloni Albouy adding 39, captain Davin Dill 28 and Jubar Corbin 22.

Shane Hollis was the pick of the Bridge bowling with six for 39 while Noel Woods claimed three for 58.

In reply, Bridge were dismissed for 136 in 37.3 overs with captain and wicketkeeper Adrian Burrows (29) and Callum McIntosh (28) providing the bulk of their runs.

Taurean Manders was the pick of the PHC bowling with three for 21 while new ball pair Dionte Dowling (two for 21) and Darrien Gibbons (two for 17) claimed two wickets each.
