It’s official! Eastern Counties and Athene T20 League matches cancelled
All domestic cricket matches that were scheduled for this weekend have been called off because of Hurricane Ernesto.
First to pull the plug were the Eastern Counties Cricket Association, which was meant to stage its second-round fixture at Lord’s, St David’s, today.
With the confirmation that there are no rain dates for the Eastern Counties, it means Bay proceed to the August 31 final against Flatts.
“We regret to announce that tomorrow’s game between Bailey’s Bay and St David’s is officially cancelled,’’ the ECCA said in a statement.
“Further to the meeting held on Tuesday, August 13, the executive committee, along with the cricket chair, have agreed not to have any rain dates, as this was not ratified prior to the start of the 2024 series.”
The Bermuda Cricket Board has also responded to the impending danger posed by hurricane Ernesto by shelving the opening matches of the Athene T20 League.
It means all the teams that were meant to play at three venues on Sunday will share points.
St George’s and Warwick were also supposed to be crowned for winning their respective 50-over leagues before their T20 match on Sunday. The two teams will now have to wait for another day to lift their trophies.
“Further to the press conference Thursday with the Premier and national security minister, and information from the Emergency Measures Organisation, this weekend’s T20 games have been cancelled,’’ the BCB added.
