Bermuda to host cricket tournament featuring Americas Select team
Bermuda will play host to a series of friendly international cricket matches between the national team, an Americas Select XI and St George’s next month.
The tournament, sanctioned by the International Cricket Council, is scheduled for September 11 to 15 at venues yet to be announced and effectively replaces the Bermuda Premier League in the fixture schedule.
Bermuda Cricket Board executive director Calvin Blankendal confirmed that there is no BPL this year, with that competition expected to resume in 2025.
“The dates are now for the ICC Americas Select tour,’’ Blankendal said. “It’s the same timeline but a different format and the official format of the BPL will return in 2025.”
BCB president Lloyd Smith expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming matches and believes the matches will provide an important opportunity for Bermuda to showcase its cricketing talent and further strengthen ties with their regional cricketing counterparts.
“We are extremely excited to host these ICC-sanctioned friendly matches and welcome our friends from the Americas to Bermuda,’’ Smith said.
“This series is a great opportunity for our players to compete at a high level and highlight the growing strength and passion for cricket within our region.
“We look forward to thrilling matches, fostering camaraderie, and continuing to build the sport's legacy in Bermuda and beyond.”
Some of the island’s most promising and experienced cricketers are expected to be named in the Bermuda Select squad as they compete against the players in the ICC Americas region.
Significant interest in the matches is expected on and off the island, with further details of venues and tickets to be announced in the coming days.
