Bermudian cricketer Kamau Leverock will play alongside West Indies legend Chris Gayle after earning a contract to play in the Legends of Cricket League.

Leverock was the ninth pick for the Gujarat franchise at the draft auction on Thursday, and went for a price of 10.89 Lakh (the equivalent of $13,000).

Based in India, the LLC season starts on September 20 and features six teams Konark Suryas, India Capitals, Southern Superstars, Manipal Tigers, Hyderabad and Gujarat, with the sides competing in a 25-match tournament.

Matches will be played across four cities – Jodhpur, Surat, Jammu and Srinagar – with the final scheduled for October 16.

Leverock forms part of a stellar Gujarat line-up, which includes Gayle, Indian legend Shikhar Dhawan, Pakistan’s Mohammad Kaif and former England seamer Liam Plunkett.

The 29-year-old Bermudian was part of more than 200 former international cricket stars to go under the hammer in Thursday’s auction in New Delhi. While Leverock was snapped up, Sri Lanka’s Tillakaratne Dilshan, the Australian duo of Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh, South Africa’s Hashim Amla, as well as the Bangladesh pair of Tamim Iqbal and Mohammad Ashraful remained unsold.

One of Bermuda’s talented cricketers has struggled to attract attention from international franchise competitions around the world, with his biggest stage the 2018 Global T20 Canada, in which he appeared for Vancouver Knights.

Even his swashbuckling display for Bermuda in last year’s ICC Men's T20 World Cup Americas Region Final, where he blasted 213 runs, with a best of 98 against Cayman Island, has not brought any rewards.

But with last season’s LLC attracting a television audience of 180 million, this presents Leverock with a huge opportunity to garner more international opportunities.
