Dennis Musson strikes as Cleveland County pick up big win
Lord’s (Cleveland County won toss): Cleveland County beat Western Stars by 70 runs
Dennis Musson picked up five wickets for Cleveland County as they bounced back from defeat against Somerset a day earlier to thrash Western Stars in the Athene T20 Premier Division on Sunday.
Musson took the scalps of Jaiden Manders, Tomeiko Wilson, Dante Wellman, Khiry Furbert and Dekata Gilbert as County skittled Stars out for just 69 as they attempted to chase the 147 needed for victory.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat at Lord’s, Cleveland’s openers Treadwell Gibbons Jr and Dion Stovell set a steady pace before the latter fell for 26 at the start of the seventh over with the score at 41.
Steven Bremar Jr (18), Allan Douglas Jr (12) and Mackih McGowan (39) also made valuable contributions on the way to reaching 147 for six, with only Stars bowler Rohan Davis picking up more than one wicket, finishing on two for 23 from his four overs. Seth Campbell, Tre and Jaiden Manders, and Tomeiko shared the other Cleveland wickets to fall.
In reply, Stars opener Jason Anderson was the first wicket to fall after he was run out for six, with No 3 Wilson next to fall when he became Musson’s first victim to leave the score at 32-2 from eight overs.
From there Stars lost their last seven wickets for just 37 runs with Tre Manders (20) and Jaiden Manders (17) the only batters to make it into double figures. Khiry Furbert, Seth Campbell, Seion Darrell and Dekata Gilbert lost their wickets for a combined total of four as Stars fell well short of their target.
Musson finished with figures of five for 17 from his four overs with Gibbons picking up two for 18 and Stovell one for eight.
