Bailey’s Bay top T20 Premier Division after final round is washed out
Bailey’s Bay have finished on top of the T20 Premier Division standings after the final round of matches were washed out on Sunday.
Umpires Roger Dill and Steven Caines called the game off between Bay and Cleveland County at Lord’s with the pitch unplayable due to the constant rain.
Going into the final round of matches, Bay held a ten-point lead at the top of the Premier Division over Somerset, who needed to win their match against Western Stars and hope Bay lost heavily to stand any hope of winning the league.
But with no play possible at any venue on Sunday, the focus now switches to the T20 semi-finals and finals, which are scheduled for next weekend and feature Bay, Somerset, Cleveland and St George’s.
Bay director of cricket Irving Romaine was disappointed to not win the league by beating Cleveland on the pitch but is looking forward to the knockout stages despite a potential challenge with his squad.
“It is unfortunate that it rained today as both teams came ready to play,” Romaine said.
“This is not the way we would like to win the league but that’s cricket.
“Like most teams, we are facing a challenge for player availability as football season has started, but there is a trophy out there to win and we will aim to win it.”
