Clay Smith has been named as the new coach of the Bermuda Under-19 cricket team.

Smith has been appointed in the role until September 2027 and takes over from Janeiro Tucker, the new Somerset head coach. He will be assisted by Reggie Tucker Jr.

“The Bermuda Cricket Board is pleased to announce that Clay Smith has been appointed as the under-19 boys national team coach,” the BCB said in a statement on Thursday.

“Coach Smith has been contracted until September 2027, along with his assistant coach, Reggie Tucker Jr.”

Smith, who is a former coach of the senior national team, expressed his excitement about working with Bermuda’s up-and-coming cricketers.

“It is indeed an honour to be given this opportunity to coach the under-19 national team,” the former Bermuda captain said.

“Reggie Tucker and I are looking forward to this challenge as it is a talented group of cricketers who are keen to learn and improve. We will do everything in our power to prepare the players in the hope of giving them every opportunity for success.”

Meanwhile, the BCB has arranged open trials as well as a welcoming session with the new coaches.

The sessions will take place on Monday from 6pm to 8pm and on April 16 at the same time at the North Field, National Sports Centre. The trials are for boys aged 15 to 17.
