Warwick fast bowler Jalani Richardson took a hat-trick in the final over to rescue a dramatic draw for his side against PHC at a raucous Somerset Cricket Club on Sunday.

Richardson dismissed lower-order batters Jubar Corbin, Jayden Simons and Kevin Sunga in successive balls to stun the huge crowd.

PHC, who were sent out to field first by Warwick, restricted their rivals to 101 for six from their allotted 20 overs, with seven fours and three sixes among the total.

Warwick opener Malachi Jones smashed three powerful boundaries in the opening three overs, which went for 22 runs, and partner Kamau Leverock played a beautiful shot through the covers which went for four in the next over.

But Leverock was quickly caught by Corbin at mid-wicket and Jones was the victim of a good piece of fielding by Taurean Manders, who juggled before taking the catch.

PHC showed immense concentration thereafter to take four more wickets and limit Warwick, with young Callum MacFarlane top scorer on 28 runs. Dionte Dowling was the pick of the PHC bowlers, claiming three wickets for just 13 runs in an economical performance, while Keishon and Ori Wilson took a wicket apiece.

With a low total to defend Warwick brought the heat with Leverock and Richardson starting the bowling assault, and the former made the breakthrough.

Ori Wilson tried to defend his off stump but a faster delivery by Leverock rapped him off the pads and umpire Anderson Cumberbatch took his time before raising the dreaded finger.

PHC captain Davin Dill was out in the fifth over to leave Zebras in trouble at 20 for two before Charles Trott came in and hit a monstrous six to give his team some life at 30 for two at the close of the powerplay.

PHC made a further 44 runs in the next nine overs and needed just nine off the final over to win.

Keishon Wilson struck a critical six on the first ball of a crazy final over before he and Koshun Durrant got into a mess running between the wickets and wicketkeeper Jahcobi Butterfield threw it to the bowler’s end to run out the latter..

With that, Richardson took his chance to change the game with raw pace, rattling off a hat-trick.

There was no such dramatic finish in the opening T20 match at Somerset as Western Stars thrashed Willow Cuts by 64 runs.

Cuts had Stars languishing on 25 for three at one stage before a solid 63-run partnership for the fourth wicket between Rohan Davis and Tameiko Wilson propelled Stars to a decent total of 123 for six.

Cuts keeper Shaquille Bean made consecutive stumpings to thwart Davis and then Ian Coke on consecutive deliveries in the sixteenth over. Wilson finished with the high knock of 40, from 49 balls, while Davis finished on 30. Micah Simons, Kwasi James and Deunte Darrell took two wickets each, with Simons the most economical.

Although Cuts would have had high hopes of chasing down the total, Seth Campbell was quick to race through the top of the order.

Dwight Basden, Kwasi James and Darrell were all victims of Campbell and after captain Ras Solomon Burrows was caught leg before by Davis trying to flick over wicketkeeper Tameiko Wilson, the tail followed in quick succession.

Despite a glimmer of aggression and two elegant boundaries from last man Jordan Hill, Cuts were dismissed for just 59 runs. Davis and Campbell finished level on four wickets, while Burrows (11) was the only Cuts bat to register double figures.

In the only game played at St David’s, Southampton Rangers beat Flatts Victoria by 48 runs.

After being put into bat by their opponents, Rangers made 170 for six largely off the back of Dion Stovell hitting 70 off just 48 balls.

Flatts never really threatened to win with Kijuan Franks their top scorer with 49, eventually finishing on 127 for four.
