A mother pleaded guilty this morning to abandoning her three-year-old child.Magistrates’ Court heard that hours after the child had been left alone, the child was found walking the streets of Southampton shivering and afraid.The mother, who The Royal Gazette is not naming to protect the identity of the child, was set to appear for trial at Magistrates’ Court on a charge of abandoning the child while in a position of responsibility, but instead pleaded guilty.According to Crown counsel Nicole Smith, the mother left her child at 10pm on May 9 to visit a friend, leaving the television on and the front door shut but unlocked.Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ordered a social inquiry report, a psychological report and a drug and alcohol assessment to be carried out before sentencing.The mother was released on bail and ordered to return to court on February 4.
