Friends remember Randy Robinson as always having a cheerful smile
Tributes have flooded in for murdered footballer Randy Robinson who will be fondly remembered for “the huge smile you couldn’t ever wipe off his face”.Friends have spoken of how the 22-year-old had dedicated his life to his love of football since he was a young child.They say Mr Robinson, who leaves behind a two-year-old son, will be best remembered for his talents and skills as a North Village Rams player who was liked by everyone.The midfielder formerly played for Devonshire Cougars and was included in the Bermuda national team squad in 2008.Mr Robinson was gunned to death as he was walking along Border Lane in Devonshire at about 8.30pm on Thursday.BAA’s football director Kenny Thompson said finding out Mr Robinson had been murdered “really broke my spirit.”He said: “It has saddened everyone in the football community. I was shocked when I found out it was Randy and I’m still feeling numb.“What I loved most about Randy was his happy spirit and his awesome smile. He had such a pleasant spirit about him.“He was very easy to get along with and was well liked.”Mr Thompson coached Mr Robinson’s father, Randy Spence, at North Village from 1997 and said “Randy was always with him.”Mr Spence is a former North Village Rams star and currently captains the North Village team in the Corona League.He said: “Like most boys in Bermuda, he loved playing football. As a footballer, he had a lot of talent and potential.“He had really good ball control and I found him to be a very creative player who could always solve problems.”HOTT 107.5’s DJ Kristy “Miss Thang” Burgess said Mr Robinson lovingly called her ‘Burg’ and he’d always phone up and say: “Burg, what’s new?”She said: “Randy was always smiling and had something witty to say. He loved football, enjoyed music and the love he had for his family always showed.“For a young man he was very intelligent and always found something to debate about. If he didn’t know the answer he would try to convince me that he did.“What I am going to miss most about Randy is his smile and his effervescent spirit. For a young man he had dreams bigger than the ocean and he believed he could do and accomplish anything.May his spirit and soul rest in peace.”
