Police warn of Internet scams
The Bermuda Police Service is warning the public about Internet scams on online classifieds websites.A Police spokesman said: “If the person is not selling locally or if an overseas person requests to purchase items posted on a local online classifieds website, be wary, as it may not be legitimate.“Residents should not send monies to unknown persons before receiving the goods.”The spokesman also warned residents selling items on classified sites to be careful, saying: “If someone from overseas claims they want to purchase a product on a local classifieds website and sends more money than is necessary to the seller, the alleged purchaser’s intentions may not be genuine.”If you have lost money due to an Internet scam, the police advise that you contact the Fraud Unit at 295-0011.Useful website: www.bps.bm
