Two men injured in daylight shooting on Palmetto Road
Two men were treated for gunshot wounds at King Edward VII Memorial (KEMH), following a double shooting in Devonshire on Monday afternoon.Police said yesterday that they were investigating the shooting which left two men aged, 39 and 48, with gunshot wounds.Shortly after 12.35pm, police cars blocked off traffic to Palmetto Road between Roberts Avenue and Frog Lane, and from Devon Lane.Police were also stationed at the KEMH emergency room, where the two victims were driven in a private vehicle.Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.A Police spokesman said the victims were riding a motorcycle west along Palmetto Road when two men on a second motorcycle riding behind them opened fire.“A brief pursuit began and eventually, the suspects’ vehicle drove on to Border Lane North towards Friswells Road, making good their escape,” the spokesman said. The spokesman said the initial information received by the police suggest the gunmen were wearing dark clothing and riding a dark scooter-type motorcycle.Uniformed officers, along with detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro, congregated in the area of Long Ridge Pass.A woman living close to the scene said she had heard several shots fired in quick succession.“I thought it was a bike going off on the hill,” she said, saying she had seen or heard nothing beforehand. In a mainly residential area where the majority of people were out at work at the time, the area in the aftermath of the shooting was largely deserted as officers made a forensic sweep of the road.A small number of onlookers gathered at Devonshire Recreational Club.Police have appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to contact the serious crime unit on 295 0011, or the Confidential Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-8477.
