Gun, drugs seized in St George’s

A firearm, ammunition and drugs were seized in St George’s Sunday following a police search.According to a police spokesman, officers were on patrol in the Mullet Bay and Wellington Slip area when their attention was drawn to a group of men acting suspiciously.“A search revealed a quantity of drugs, for which the men were arrested,” the spokesman said. “A further search revealed a firearm and ammunition concealed nearby. Two other men were arrested on related charges. All four men remain in custody.Member of Parliament and area resident Kim Swan said on Sunday that he saw an increased police presence in the area Sunday afternoon. Yesterday, he said: “The area under scrutiny is close in proximity to many households and a location where children must pass regularly to go to and from their homes.“With the level of gun violence resulting in numerous murders around Bermuda, this latest recovery of a firearm and ammunition is a crude awakening for our community, and puts us all on notice that we cannot take matters for granted, be complacent, or allow antisocial behavior to deteriorate our neighborhoods and our quality of life.”He said that the Police Community Action Team, together with residents, the area church, government and area merchants have come together to clean up the area where much of the loitering took place, but instead of disappearing, the problem merely moved. He called for the community to come together to form neighbourhood watches, and to support the police in their investigations.
