Tomorrow is ‘International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’
Bermuda will join with other nations to launch a global awareness campaign against drugs.On Sunday, Bermuda will observe the “International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” by launching a campaign to support and inspire people to work against drug abuse and the drug trade.The campaign will be aimed specifically at young people, noting the impact on the individuals and families that are involved in drug trafficking.This week, the Department of National Drug Control will host educational booths at Albouy’s Point, Victoria and Par-la-Ville parks, Dockyard and in King’s Square in St George’s.Minister of Justice Michael Scott said: “The Ministry recognises that drugs have become a deeply ingrained part of life, and that prevention cannot occur unless social attitudes towards drug use change.“Changing social attitudes towards drugs is a difficult undertaking, but not an impossible one.“The message that drug use is unacceptable, unhealthy and unnecessary must be communicated in a credible and consistent manner by the family, schools, media, business community, medical and legal experts, politicians, professional athletes and other public figures.”
