Armed robbers ambushed Hitching Post staff, police
Police are continuing to investigate an armed robbery in Sandys, in which at least four men ambushed staff working at The Hitching Post.Police said at least four men, some brandishing firearms, took part in the 8.15am robbery yesterday, forcing security staff to give them access to the building.The men escaped with a quantity of cash. They are believe to have left the area on foot, but then travelled West on Middle Road on motorcycles.All suspects were wearing dark coloured clothing and black, full face helmets with dark coloured visors.An investigation is now underway, and police have issued an appeal for anyone with information, particularly anyone who may have been on Middle Road or on Wreck Road in Sandys at the time of the incident, to contact the Somerset Criminal Investigation Unit at 234-1010, the Serious Crime Unit on 295-0011 or the confidential Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-8477.The Hitching Post, a former grocery, is used as a warehouse and office by the Arnold’s group of supermarkets.Just last month The Royal Gazette reported on mounting security concerns with one company rolling out an Alarm Response and Support Unit that deploys security vans that can react quickly to security related issues at local businesses and residences.In that report, Security Associates’ CEO Carlton Crockwell said: “People are more concerned for their well-being, and we’re finding there are more incidents to deal with.”
