Bermudian shot dead in Jamaica, man is held
Details emerged last night of Bermudian Karen Hudson-Lewis, a “vibrant” business operator shot dead in the Jamaican town of Mandeville.Former United Bermuda Party MP Grace Bell recalled Ms Hudson-Lewis, 45, as a woman who had made a name for herself running the Parkside Restaurant, on Parsons Road.“I saw the success that she made for herself,” Ms Bell said. “I remember her as part of a group of young people I would chat with, about what they were going to do in life and how to keep out of trouble. I know that she went off and did well.”Formerly of Loyal Hill in Devonshire, Ms Hudson-Lewis lived at a Paget address and divided her time between Bermuda and Jamaica.According to Jamaican police, the victim was at her residence in Perthland Drive, Mandeville, when she was gunned down along with Everton Daley, 39, of Lincoln district.Following the double shooting at 8.50pm on Friday, both were pronounced dead at Mandeville Regional Hospital.A news release from the Constabulary Communication Network said a man from the house was being questioned by Mandeville Police, and that a 9mm Glock pistol, believed to have been used in the shooting, had also been seized.According to the Jamaican Gleaner, the man in custody was the caretaker at Ms Hudson-Lewis’s residence on the Island.Ms Hudson-Lewis was said to have been shot along with her taxi driver, shortly after arriving from Norman Manley International Airport.
