Police ticket 15 motorists for driving while using cell phones
Fifteen people were given tickets for using cell phones while driving in a police crackdown yesterday.A Police spokeswoman said: “Between 7.30am and 9.30am on Wednesday, police officers monitored traffic in both the western and central parishes for offences under the Road Traffic Act as well as the recent legislation which prohibits the use of hand-held cell phones or other hand-held devices whilst driving.“As a result, officers ticketed 15 people for using hand-held cell phones or other hand-held devices whilst driving, issued one ticket for an unfastened helmet and arrested two people for outstanding warrants.“The officers were located in areas where they were able to stop offending motorists with minimum inconvenience to other road users.“The Bermuda Police Service would like to remind the motoring public that officers will continue to monitor the Island’s roads for any offences including the use of hand-held cell phones or other hand-held devices whilst driving.”
