MP's business hit by graffiti and vandalism
Graffiti championing the Progressive Labour Party was daubed over One Bermuda Alliance MP Donte Hunt’s car washing business.A giant “PLP all the way” slogan was painted on the walls of EcoSteam Car Cleaning in Par-la-Ville car park, while the tyres of Mr Hunt’s truck were slashed. The incident was condemned by the PLP yesterday, with a spokesman calling for people to respect others regardless of their political party.Mr Hunt and his father Allen Hunt say vandals have targeted their firm three times in recent weeks, tearing up their sign on one occasion and supergluing the locks on another. The latest incident happened on Monday night, with the Shadow Community Development Minister discovering the message as he arrived at work at 8am on Tuesday.“My heart sank when I saw the graffiti and the truck,” Mr Hunt told The Royal Gazette.“I’m always fearful because this is not the first time vandalism has happened here. I have sleepless nights because I lie there thinking my $2,000 tent will be vandalised soon.“It’s just sad. I hire two Bermudians. One is 19 and the other is in his 50s. These guys work hard and this is my job. It’s sad that people are doing this to Bermudians.”Allen Hunt said he had heard shouts of “PLP all the way” aimed at their business in recent weeks. He said car washing is banned in Par-la-Ville car park, but EcoSteam opened in March this year as a pilot programme approved by the City of Hamilton. The company uses steam technology to clean the inside and outside of cars in an environmentally friendly manner.A PLP spokesman said in a statement: "The PLP condemns the graffiti attack on Donte Hunt's car washing business in the strongest possible terms. We call on the police to fully investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators of this crime to justice."We request that as we go about our daily lives, despite our personal views, please respect other people's property. We strongly condemn those who would use graffiti to mark other people's property whatever the message."The PLP is committed to treating everyone fairly and we must remember this is regardless of what side of the political fence you sit on."
