Men arrested in wake of Woody’s gun incident released
Four men arrested after a masked man attempted to open fire outside a Sandys bar have been released from custody, police said last night. The men, from Pembroke, were detained following a 911 call reporting that a man wielded a “machine gun” outside Woody’s in Boaz Island on Saturday night.Police released a CCTV image of the suspect on Thursday, and revealed that a jet ski suspected to have been used as the getaway vehicle had been found in Spanish Point, Pembroke.CCTV images from Woody’s were been sent overseas for digital enhancement and forensic tests carried out on the jet ski.Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro said the gunman did not manage to fire the weapon but it was unclear whether that was due to human or mechanical error or because it was a fake.Asked for an update on the investigation yesterday, a police spokesman said: “All four persons arrested in connection with the Saturday, August 25, incident at Woody’s have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.“No weapon has been recovered, and there has been limited assistance from the public so far. However, investigations are ongoing as we continue to build the evidence and process the forensic evidence gleaned.”He said anyone with information that could help the investigation should call the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477 or the Serious Crime Unit on 247-1739.
