Police send out more armed patrols
Police have increased the number of armed patrols following a series of firearm incidents.The latest occurred at around 8.45pm on Tuesday, when officers received reports of gunshots in the Scenic Heights area in Southampton. Forensic officers later confirmed a firearm had been fired, but no injuries were reported.A Police Spokesman said: “Bermuda has experienced an increase in firearms incidents in the last few months, as compared with the rest of the year.“In response to these incidents, the Bermuda Police Service has already increased the number of armed police officers on patrol and have expanded enforcement activity including the use of all lawful powers of search with a view to catching and disrupting offenders.“Also, several lines of inquiry are being followed, including the use of CCTV. We are asking for the public’s patience as there maybe potential traffic holdups as a result of these undertakings.“The motive(s) for these incidents remain unclear, and we continue to encourage anyone with any information to come forward, no matter how insignificant you believe the information to be.
