Westgate to deal with stabbing internally

The 23-year-old inmate stabbed by another inmate at Westgate Correctional Facility has decided not to press criminal charges against his alleged assailant. As a result, Corrections Commissioner Edward Lamb has confirmed the matter will be dealt with internally by prison authorities. The inmate allegedly responsible for the stabbing will appear before the Treatment of Offenders Board.“Each case is handled on its own merits, we are proceeding internally via the Treatment of Offenders Board; the offender will face disciplinary action,” said Mr Lamb. The victim required surgery to repair a stab wound to the chest following the incident on October 24. The prison was placed on lockdown for a period after the stabbing and both inmates were reportedly moved to separate areas of the prison.
