Angry man kicked out at motorcycles

A man who kicked over a group of motorcycles in a fit of rage was fined yesterday and ordered to pay for the damage he caused.Shomari Harvey, 34, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court to causing wilful damage in an incident on September 17.He also pleaded guilty to separate charges of driving an unlicensed and uninsured motorcycle.The court heard that at around 11.50am that day, officers were on patrol on Court Street when they heard a report of a man kicking several parked cycles on Princess and Elliott Streets.The officers went to investigate and noticed Harvey, who matched the description of the culprit, walking into the Dame Lois Browne-Evans building.Questioned, Harvey admitted kicking the bikes, saying that he was angry that officers had taken his motorcycle keys from him. He was subsequently arrested.The court heard that one of the vehicles knocked over suffered $256 in damages.“I just sat there for 20 minutes and they didn’t come back,” he told the court. “There was one bike I kicked and it knocked the other bikes down.“I’m very sorry for my actions and I’m willing to pay.”Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined Harvey $500 for causing wilful damage, and ordered that he pay $256 in restitution for the damage caused. He further fined Harvey $750 for the traffic offences.Mr Warner gave Harvey 30 days to pay the traffic fines, but ordered that the other $756 be paid immediately.
