Police warn against distributing child abuse images
A child sex abuse image circulating via local electronic media should under no circumstances be forwarded to anyone, police have warned. No matter what the intention or concern, forwarding such images is an offence under the Criminal Code Amendment Act, 2007.Inspector Mark Clarke, Officer in Charge at the Vulnerable Persons Unit, noted the increase on the Island this year in electronic transmission of “sexually explicitly images”.An image of “a very young child being sexually abused” made the rounds over the weekend, he said.Since such images are “documented evidence of a crime in progress”, they must be presented to police. The presence of such images on a phone or computer is illegal, Insp Clarke said, and makes the device’s owner liable to prosecution.
