Arrest made in London in connection with Christmas Day murder of Malcolm Augustus
Police confirmed yesterday that a suspect in the Christmas Day murder of Malcolm Augustus is in the United Kingdom.The Royal Gazette understands that a suspect in the case boarded a British Airways flight from Bermuda to the UK after the killing, but was arrested when it arrived at Gatwick Airport in London.Investigations were said to be continuing yesterday that may eventually lead to his extradition being sought.A police spokesman declined to go into detail about the investigation, but said: “The investigation in the death of Malcolm Augustus continues. A suspect is in the UK and the Bermuda Police are working with the relevant agencies within that jurisdiction on this matter.”Meanwhile, this newspaper further understands that two men remained in custody in Bermuda yesterday. Asked about that, the spokesman replied: “No further comment on this matter will be made at this time.”St George’s resident Mr Augustus, 20, was shot dead on the edge of the town’s golf course in the early hours of Christmas Day. The following day, Police announced that they had a 24-year-old St George’s man in custody over the killing.On December 30, they said they had a total of three men in custody.On January 2, a 33-year-old man from St George’s was charged with premeditated murder, and is due back in court on January 16.
